HANA MENDEL

BIOGRAPHY

Hana Mendel (b. 1996) is a New York City-based artist and photographer. Specializing in editorial photographic illustration, she is a visual contributor to The New Yorker's Flash Fiction, New York Magazine, and Tablet Magazine. Her work has been featured in publications including The Wall Street Journal, GQ, WIRED, and Fast Company.

Mendel earned a BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design and completed the Columbia Publishing Course at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2022. Following her interests in Jewish studies, she attended Neve Yerushalayim Seminary for Jewish Women in 2024.

Mendel's interests in journalism, Jewish philosophy, and conceptual imagery have highlighted her work at their intersection. Initially intending to be an illustrator, her early influences of magical realism and caricature shaped her photographic voice.
