Hana Mendel (b. 1996) is a New York City-based photographer and artist specializing in editorial photo illustration. Her work has been published in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Tablet Magazine, and more. Recently, she exhibited at the 2024 Jerusalem Biennale, including a piece submitted by New York Magazine for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism.
Mendel graduated in 2018 with a BFA in Photography from Columbus College of Art & Design. Initially intending to pursue illustration, she began integrating her early influences of magical realism and caricature into her photographic style. In 2022, she attended the Columbia Publishing Course at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, studying art direction and digital publishing. In 2024, she took a hiatus to study Jewish studies at Neve Yerushalayim Seminary in Jerusalem, Israel. Currently, she continues to work and create in New York City.
